In a major development in the fight against elder abuse and nursing home negligence in Maryland, Elkton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center has agreed to a $1.2 million settlement following allegations of serious mistreatment and neglect of its residents.
The settlement, announced by the Maryland Office of the Attorney General, stems from claims that the facility violated the Maryland False Health Claims Act by delivering substandard care to vulnerable seniors and Medicaid recipients.
Allegations Against Elkton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center
The Medicaid Fraud and Vulnerable Victims Unit revealed disturbing issues through an in-depth investigation, including:

Chronic understaffing, leading to inadequate supervision and care

Severe wound care deficiencies, posing serious health risks

Numerous preventable falls and injuries among residents

Neglect of residents’ changing medical conditions

Failure to provide proper nutrition and hydration

Though Elkton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center has not admitted fault, it agreed to the settlement without litigation.
Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating:
“Every Marylander deserves compassion, dignity, and respect. This action serves as a warning that my Office will not stand by while nursing facilities fail to provide quality care to those who need it most.”
